This work was photographed in a winter forest in Japan. Compositionally, the branches and trees form a spiral-like movement, guiding the viewer’s eye deeper into the scene and creating a quiet sense of depth and contemplation.
The slightly veiled atmosphere comes from the snow blowing through the air at the time of shooting. Through this work, I wanted to express the silence of winter and the fragile beauty of a passing moment.
The inspiration behind this work comes partly from 19th-century French painters and early photographers.
This work was photographed by a lakeside in Japan, near the end of autumn. I waited for the weak light of dawn, when the colors begin to emerge only faintly.
In this work, I wanted to express stillness, quiet melancholy, and a distinctly Japanese sensibility. At the time of shooting, the surroundings were completely silent. Nothing seemed to move; the landscape simply existed in front of me.
This work is also a lakeside scene in Japan, photographed in autumn. Unlike the previous work, it was taken in the weak light of evening.
The main theme is again stillness. I felt that the white of the egret appeared most clearly and beautifully at this particular time, when the light was fading.
Depending on the viewer, this work may evoke different feelings: silence, fragility, solemnity, or even a quiet sense of humor in the way the egret turns away from us. To me, this work brings together both Japanese and Western sensibilities in a natural way.
